Max Fox Brewing Company Captures Two Prestigious National Awards At 2011 Great American Beer Festival Competition
FALLS CHURCH, VA – Mad Fox Brewing Company, Northern Virginia’s upscale brewpub with a specialized focus on chef-driven cuisine, won two major awards at this weekend’s Great American Beer Festival (GABF) in Denver.
In capturing a gold medal for their Kölsch Kellerbier and a bronze medal for their English Summer Ale, Mad Fox expanded the legacy of its chief executive officer and executive brewer Bill Madden, winner of eight awards from both GABF and the Chicago Real Ale Festival over the past 17 years. The achievement formally heralds the arrival of Mad Fox as a major player on the American craft brewing scene, notable since opening its doors for business only 14 months ago.
“This is a wonderful accomplishment for Mad Fox,” said Madden. “While we craft our beers solely for our clientele, industry recognition showcases our brewpub as a major player. Winning a gold and a bronze from among 3,930 entries takes a huge amount of work from our team. We’re proud of the results we earned in Colorado this weekend, and we’re equally proud to share both this news – and another round of beers – with our customers.”
Mad Fox captured the gold medal for their Kölsch Kellerbier in the Kellerbier/Zwickelbier category, besting 48 entries from around the nation while earning the bronze medal for their English Summer Ale within the category of the same name, finishing third among 33 competitors. Mad Fox entered a total of 18 beers in 16 categories. The Great American Beer Festival is the largest commercial beer competition in the world, with 3,930 beers vying for 248 medals. Competition entries were received from 526 breweries from 48 states plus Puerto Rico. A full list of award winners can be found at http://www.greatamericanbeerfestival.com/the-competition/winners/.
Headquartered in the heart of the City of Falls Church at 444 West Broad Street, Mad Fox brews all its British, Belgian and German style beers in-house on a 15-barrel Premier Stainless brewing system with 180-barrels of fermentation space under the direct supervision of Madden and brewer Charlie Buettner. The restaurant is modeled after a European gastropub with particular attention paid to pairing food with beverages. The menu features artisanal pizzas, paninis, salads and a creative collection of entrees with frequent specials, integrating housebaked breads and primarily locally-sourced farm-to-table ingredients overseen by Executive Chef Russel Cunningham and Executive Sous Chef Sean Swasey. All beers are served on tap.
